In most cases, when we think of weddings, we can’t help but think of the bride. We wonder what her dress is going to look like, her hairstyle, makeup, the champagne (not bride related but me related). It always feels like it’s the women that have a ton to do before their big day. From picking out a wedding venue to changing their last name.
While it is true that women are the backbone of this whole operation, no one ever seems to wonder about the groom. It’s his wedding as well, so it’s his special day too.
Now that we’ve acknowledged that, it’s time to recognize that men can also pamper up and have their own self-care skin routing for the big day.
For all my neglected grooms out there, this one’s for you.
Beautiful Hair, Don’t Care
I know what you’re thinking. But unless you’re completely bald and there is no hope left for you, stay with me here. Knowing what hairstyle you’re going to wear on your wedding day is a huge decision. You cannot wake up the morning of your wedding and decide to use some chemically infused gel because “that’s what works” for you. Just stop it, ok?
Do you have short hair, long hair, little to no hair? What’s the game plan here? How are you going to flaunt that beautiful mane?
You may want to cut it, shave it, or maybe even grow it out. If that’s the case, then you need to consider excellent hair loss treatment options such as Finasteride. Using this treatment regularly in the months leading up to the big day will aid in thicker hair and slow down the rate of hair loss!
If you’ve got a head full of hair, then kudos to you, my friend. Make an appointment with your hairstylist (dead serious) weeks before the wedding. They will help you, I promise. If you’ve got greys, that’s perfectly fine. If George Clooney can look that sexy in grey, so can you!
But if you feel a touch up is what you need, this touch-up wand will do the trick; You can keep it on your persons at all time, so you don’t offer any pesky hair problems before saying “I do.”
Again, you need to know what hairstyle you’re going to rock because there will be a ton of cameras which means a ton of photos! You don’t want to look back and regret something as simple as hair.
Have No Fear, I’ve Kept the Beard
Want a few bonus tips? If you’re going for a clean-shaven look, shave with the grain of your hair. This will prevent any unnecessary irritation on your face.
If you’re planning to keep your beard for the big day, opt for a beard oil to condition your facial hair and avoid scratching your new spouse when you go in for that first kiss as a married couple!
Fitness is the Business
Whether you have a weight loss goal you want to reach, or you’re looking to maintain your current physique, exercise has countless benefits that go beyond getting rid of some extra pounds. As we learned in fifth-grade biology, exercise helps in the release of endorphins. These little guys are going to be saviors before your wedding. With the endless planning that comes with a wedding, you’re going to start feeling some tension, anxiety, and pressure.
Using fitness apps like Fitbit is a great way to stay motivated, track your activity, exercise and sleep patterns, and weight. If apps aren’t the push you need to stay motivated, then call up the best man. He’s there for a reason, and that reason is that he’s your new gym buddy.
Let’s not let the stress take over our bodies and mind and have it affect our loved ones.
Easy, Breezy, Beautiful You
Between professional photos, selfies with your guests, and everything in between, you’ll be photographed a countless number of times on your wedding day. A picture is worth a thousand words, but we don’t want one of those words to be tired.
Lack of sleep affects your appearance but did you know it can also affect your body physically? Sleep deprivation causes memory issues, mood changes and weakened immunity, to name a few.
Sleep is crucial the night before the big day! Under eye bags and yawning are not welcomed at a wedding, especially yours. Just imagine posing for a picture and yawning midway.
Unbelievable. But you’ll only have yourself to blame.
One of the most significant pieces of advice we can offer to the grooms out there is to listen to your body. Get plenty of sleep and realize that all of your planning will get done and your anxiety will ease. I know society has a certain definition of what “manly” looks like and what “manly” can do but to hell with them. It’s time to create a new definition of what it means to be “manly”.
I’m talking spas, manis, pedis, massages, facials, etc. Personal time is necessary, and don’t be embarrassed to say when you need it!
So, it’s safe to say that the groom’s needs are not that much different than the brides. Except we don’t have our own theme song when walking down the aisle, but some things just can’t be changed, I guess.
Grooms do value their appearance, and it does matter to them how they look as they set down the aisle. Guys, never be afraid to take pride in your appearance and grant yourself personal time when you need it. Wedding planning takes a lot out of anyone, so be sure to take care of yourself! Prepping for the big day is no easy feat!
